In Nigeria, rap song has been one of the trending jam so far. Well, i am also a big fan of rap songs, and we have great rappers that are murdering the beat. We have decided to hand pick the most indigenous rappers for the year 2016, from Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. also note that this list is of no order.
1. Olamide
Olamide has been considered as the Yoruba king of rap, also called Badosneh. He was born on 15 March 1989 in Bariga, Lagos state. He record his first album Titled “Rapsodi” under Coded Tunes record label, he then decided to start his own record label which is known today as “YBNL” which is an acronym for “Yahoo Boy No Laptop”. Olamide has won several awards including the Headies award, Nigeria Entertainment awards. He rap fluently in his native language, Yoruba.
2. Phyno
Phyno, full name Azubuike Chibuzo Nelson born on 9 October 1986 is one of the Nigerian indiginous rapper, he release his first debut album “No Guts No Glory” in 2014. He is known for rapping in his dialect “Igbo language”. Phyno worked with a number of artist including Flavour, MI, Psquare, Ruggedman, Timaya and many others. He also had collaboration with some acts like Olamide, Flavour, M.I, just to mention a few. In an interview , he said that rapping in his native language is his strong suit.
3. Classiq
Buba Barnabas Luka, popularly known by his stage name Classiq was born on September 2, 1991 in Bauchi state. He rap fluently in “Hausa Language”and has worked with artist like Vector, Reminisce, Jesse Jagz among others. He became very popular after being featured in “King Kong” remix by Vector.
4. Lil kesh
Keshinro Ololade, popularly known as Lil kesh was born on march 14 1995 in Bariga Lagos state. He became popular after his hit single track titled “Shoki” where he featured Olamide and Davido in 2015. He rap in Yoruba and has worked with artist including Olamide, Davido, Patoranking and others.
5. Morell
Musa Akila was born in Borno state, he rap in Hausa language. He has collaborate with several Nigerian acts like Phyno, Vector, Reminisce, Naeto C, Iceprince and many others.
